Core Virtues
The entire school community worked together to identify and define the core virtues under which the school operates:
Responsibility
Responsibility is knowing and meeting your obligation to the best of your ability. It includes accepting the consequences of your choices, setting a good example for others to follow, and making a difference in the community. Responsible people are self-disciplined and self-reliant.
Integrity
Integrity is leading a public life that is consistent with your private life. It inludes remaining true to your beliefs, following your conscience, and having the courage to live by your principles. People who have integrity work hard to build a reputation upon which they can stand during difficult situations.
Honesty
Honesty is telling the truth, keeping your word, being sincere and genuine without deceit or pretense. It includes having the courage to do what is right. Honest people acknowledge mistakes, make apologies, and right wrongs.
Respect
Respect is demonstrated by treating others the way you would like to be treated, and showing courtesy and consideration in both speech and actions. Respectful people are tolerant and accepting of differences, and solve difficulties and disagreements with others in a peaceful, nonviolent manner.
Perseverance
Perseverance is continuing to work towards the accomplishment of tasks or goals that are not necessarily easy to attain. It includes accepting challenges and consistently doing your best. People who persevere, try a variety of ways to reach goals, including seeking and accepting help from others when necessary.
Citizenship
citizenship is taking care of the school environment. It includes cleaning up after yourself, obeying all of the rules, doing service work for others, respecting those in charge, and participating in extracurricular activities. Good citizens do things with a mind towards what is best for the community and encourage others to do the same.
Trustworthiness
Trustworthiness is being reliable and doing what you say you will do so as to not let others down. In some cases, it is having the courage to do what is right even when others do not. Trustworthy people are dependable in both their actions, and their words.
Kindness and Compassion
Kindness is being courteous, polite, helpful and generous. It includes using good manners, and avoiding words that could put down or hurt other people's feelings. Compassion is reaching out to someone who is in need of assistance. People who display kindness and compassion are good friends.
