Greyhound Academy

York Country Day School now offers Enrichment Classes throughout the academic year for students in York County and the surrounding areas. Greyhound Academy begins January 2019. Your school-aged child can attend one of our dynamic programs. Each session will run for a total of nine weeks. Classes are offered in the areas of Computer Animation, Theatre, Art, and Robotics. Students attending these sessions will gain access to our state-of-the-art labs and instructional equipment. After completion of the session, students earn a certificate to place in a homeschooling portfolio.

Greyhound Academy Policies

  • Students register for sessions based on their grade level as of September 1, 2018

  • All fees, including a $35 non-refundable registration fee per registrant, are due at the time of registration

  • Check should be made payable to YCDS
  • Registration confirmations will be emailed prior to the beginning of the session for which your child is registered

  • Payment will be returned only if the camp is full or if the program is canceled by YCDS
  • Refunds will be granted ONLY if the request is made in writing to the Director of Summer Programs prior to December 21, 2018.

Robotics EV3 (Grades 4-7)

Come join the fun of robotics! Learn to design, build, and program robots that will seek and find treasure, climb mountains, and explore new areas. Students will expand their skills of building and programming using LEGO EV3 Mindstorms robots. Prior robotics or building experience is not required.

Time/date: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays for 9 sessions beginning January 8, 2019- March 12, 2019 ( classes will not be held on March 5, 2019)

Digital Animation (Grades 5-8)

Do you like cartoons and drawing? Well then join us for a fun-filled 9 week session of learning basic character drawing techniques and animation from a professional in the field. We will be using Adobe’s Animate to bring your characters to life. Students will have several animations to show off by the completion of the class.

Time/date: 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays for 9 sessions beginning January 8, 2019- March 12, 2019 (Classes will not be held on March 5, 2019)

Paintbrushes Infused (Grades 2-6)

Join us for nine art session as your child’s paintbrush is infused with a variety of art techniques. Students in this session will take away 3 creative art pieces. The first project will guide students on a journey to learn about the contemporary artwork of Melissa McKinnon. This will include the three parts of a landscape, showing perspective, and how to create a birch tree painting using 7 different watercolor techniques. Artists will then move on to their next winter art project, where they will learn about the pop artwork of Romero Britto. Specifically learning about pattern, form, texture and how to create a relief, by creating a winter mug using marker techniques. In the final winter art project, students will learn about the quilling artwork of Sena Runa, using radial symmetry, pattern, and form by creating a snowflake using paper quilling techniques. This class session is sure to inspire.

Theatre Production Class: “Disney’s Aladdin Kids” (Grades 2-8)

This theater class will focus on exploring fundamental acting skills like projection, expression through voice and body, creativity, confidence onstage, and cooperation. Students will have the opportunity to audition, rehearse and perform “Disney’s Aladdin Kids.” The street urchin Aladdin uses a genie’s magical powers to vie for the princess Jasmine’s attention. Filled with familiar Disney characters like Iago, Jafar, the genie and more, this musical adventure is filled with magic and excitement. The class will culminate with a public performance of the musical on March 16th.

Time/date: 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays for 9 sessions beginning January 5, 2019- March 16, 2019 ( classes will not be held on March 2 and 9, 2019)
