York Country Day School is proud to offer many summer camps to fit your family’s wants and needs. Are your children ready to explore, create, and discover a summer filled with fun and adventure? Our camps offer a wide variety of innovative and engaging activities. Summer is the time to remain engaged. From building robots, performing in a play, participating in team building, to enjoying physical fitness in our sports camps; we have something for all. Spaces are limited. Summer Program Policies

  • Campers should register for camps based on their grade level as of September 1, 2018
  • All camp fees, including a $35 non-refundable registration fee per registrant, are due at the time of registration
  • Check should be made payable to YCDS
  • Registration confirmations will be emailed prior to the beginning of the camp for which your child is registered
  • Payment will be returned only if the camp is full or if the program is canceled by YCDS
  • Refunds will be granted ONLY if the request is made in writing to the Director of Summer Programs prior to June 1

Camp Greyhound Day Camp (Grades K-6)

Are you ready to learn about animals and go on a safari? Do you enjoy creating inventions? How about participating in the Olympics? Join us at York Country Day School for Camp Greyhound! This exciting day camp includes art, swimming, fitness, and exploration. Lunch and two daily snacks are provided every day. Every Friday, students will go on field trip adventures to enrich their weekly theme of learning and playing. Our last two weeks of camp will help students reset their school mindset, as we plan invigorating and mind-stimulating activities to activate learning at age-appropriate levels. Day Camp Information

  • 10:1 student, counselor ratio
  • Daily swimming at the Grumbacher Sports and Fitness Center located at York College of Pennsylvania
  • Camp fees include a nutritious lunch, snacks, and drinks
  • Enrollment is based on the camper’s grade as of September 1, 2018
  • Camper drop-off is 8:00 a.m. and pick-up is 4:00 p.m.
  • Extended day care is available until 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee
  • Register for 4 or more weeks of camp at one time and receive a 10% discount on the weekly program fee

Little Learners Camp (Ages 3-5)

Little Learners Camp provides the opportunity for children ages 3-5 to play, explore, investigate, and experiment in a safe, fun learning environment. This program is perfect for students who are preparing for the classroom either in Pre-K or Kindergarten. Little Learners is led by experienced teachers with caring and high quality counselors.

Students must be reliably potty trained to attend camp.

8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

$130 per session

A minimum of 10 students must be registered for this camp.

Sensory Science (Grades K-1)

Squeeze, Sink, Splat! Prepare to see, touch, taste, and get really messy. Campers explore scientific concepts including tension, buoyancy, and gravity. We will also do some gardening and start our own worm farm. (We will NOT be tasting worms!)

Discover Devices and Doodads (Grades 2-3)

Develop critical thinking, build creative confidence, and foster collaborative teamwork while tackling real-world challenges. Students become inventors using littleBits, LEGO Education WeDo 2.0, and a whole bunch of ingenuity.

Light Up Your Creativity (Grades 5-8)

Campers in this session learn to “light up” designs by incorporating LED circuits and sensors into three technology projects they will keep! Campers will start with a review of basic electronic circuits, and then apply that knowledge and skill to create a light-up card, blinking plush and, ultimately, add LEDs to an item they bring from home (hat, hair bow, tie, t-shirt, etc.). Campers will also explore how these basic concepts can be built upon to create more advanced designs with sequenced lighting.

EV3 Robotics Camp (Grades 4-6)

Come join the fun of robotics! Learn to design, build, and program robots that will seek and find treasure, climb mountains, and explore new areas. Students will expand their skills of building and programming using LEGO EV3 Mindstorms robots. Prior robotics or building experience is not required.

Advanced EV3 Mindstorms Robotics (Grades 6-8)

Take your EV3 robotics skills to the next level. Through the week, students will tackle missions of their choosing and focus their efforts on the use of sensors, advanced programming logic, and mechanical design. Prior robotics, programming, or building experience is helpful but not required.

Exploring Robotics Using VEX Robots (Grades 9-12)

Working in small teams, students will design, build, program, and test a robot using the VEX EDR platform and RobotC to address the tasks for each day's challenge, which will be a combination of autonomous and teleoperated tasks. Students will be able to put together their new skills for an end of the week showcase that will be held Friday afternoon.

Basketball Camp (Grades 4-9)

This camp is specifically designed to teach boys and girls both offensive and defensive concepts. Fundamentals will focus on the development of shooting form, dribbling, passing, and screening. Each day’s competitive games will help campers apply their skill in real game situations. Each camper should wear appropriate attire: sneakers, socks, and athletic style t-shirts and shorts. Campers should bring a water bottle. Overall, the basketball camp experience is designed to be fun while improving both individual and team skill sets.

Girls Lacrosse Camp (Grades 1-5)

This camp is for girls in grades first through fifth and all levels of play. Whether you are new to the sport or have a few years under your belt, come learn from our experienced coaches. Learn new skills, meet fellow players, and have fun! Coach Giese was a standout, award-winning high school player in the competitive Philadelphia area, and Coach Burkey hails from Baltimore and played Division 1 women’s lacrosse as a goalie. Don’t have a stick? No problem! We have a few you can borrow. Be sure to bring your own mouthguard.

Baseball Fundamentals Camp (Grades 3-8)

Batter Up! Boys and girls are invited to join us for a fun and exciting baseball camp. Open to all levels from beginner to experienced. We will learn the fundamentals of throwing, catching, and batting. Get ready to get those bats swinging and legs running as we hit some home runs!

Adventure Camp (Grades 9-12)

Are you ready to take your learning “outside” of the classroom? Adventure seekers in this session will participate in a diversity of outdoor activities. Get ready to see new sights from a climb on a rock wall, travel miles via human power on a bike trip, and hike and kayak in the great outdoors while learning self-preservation skills. During this session, students will engage in team-building activities that develop leadership skills. An emphasis will also be placed on the ecology of our local environment. Grab your sunscreen, stay hydrated, and get ready for an active week of outdoor fun. Lunch and snacks will be provided daily.

Theatre Arts Production Camp: “The Big Bad Musical” (Grades 6-12)

This two-week production camp will focus on discovering and honing fundamental acting skills such as projection, expression through voice and body, creativity, and cooperation. Students will have the opportunity to audition, rehearse, and perform The Big Bad Musical, book by Alec Strum and music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. Some production elements like set, costume, and props design will also be explored. There are many exciting roles for all! The camp will culminate in a public performance of the musical on July 27.

A courtroom has never been more lively and fun than in The Big Bad Musical! The notorious Big Bad Wolf is being slapped with a class-action lawsuit by quirky characters who want to get even: Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. With Sydney Grimm as the commentator on live Court TV, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest — the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother — clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after. Lunch and Snack will be provided daily.

Ceramics (Grades 4-6)

Does your child like to create masterpieces using clay? Join us this summer for a week-long camp to further develop 3D sculpting skills. This class will help students to develop basic skills in the creation of 3D forms using various clay hand-building techniques. Students will conceive and create works of art that demonstrate an understanding of how the communication of their ideas relates to the medium, processes, and techniques they use.

Wheel Throwing (Grades 7-12)

Are you mesmerized by people making clay pots on a wheel? Have you ever wanted to make them yourself? Come throw some clay this summer during our wheel throwing summer workshop. Students will learn the basics of wheel throwing and hand building. Upon completion of the workshop, students will have pieces of their own.

Game Design (Grades 9-12)

Have you ever wanted to build your own video game? Come join us and have a blast building a video game level. Students will learn how to build and edit their own 2D game using the Unity game engine. The Unity engine creates games to be played across mobile, desktop or the Web. Wrapping up the camp on the last day, students will participate in a video game tournament, approved by the teacher.

Animation (Grades 4-8)

Do you like cartoons and drawing? Well then join us for a fun-filled week of learning basic character drawing techniques and animation from a professional in the field. We will be using Adobe’s Animate to bring your characters to life. Students will have several animations to show off by the completion of the camp.

Web Design I (Grades 9-12)

Do you find yourself constantly surfing the web? Do you have an interest in coding and design? If this sounds like you, join us for an exploration of HTML and CSS coding basics. Students will learn about user usability in web design along with coding several pages. Students will have basic-linking web pages built upon completion of the camp.

Web Design II (Grades 9-12)

This camp builds upon skills learned in the Web Design I camp. Students need to have an understanding of HTML and CCS to participate in this camp. Students will learn about responsive web design. They will be coding for the tablet and the phone along with learning jQuery to make their sites interactive. Upon completion of the camp, students will have web pages created that can be displayed on mobile devices.

Video (Grades 6-8)

Do you like to watch videos on You Tube? Come join us to learn the software that professionals use. This week-long camp will teach the students the basics of camera operation, types of shots/set up, and editing using Adobe Premiere Pro. Upon completion of the camp, students will have their own video masterpieces.

Motion Graphics (Grades 9-12)

Do you like to watch animated text dance across a screen? Did you ever wonder how this is done? Join us as we explore the software that professionals use. This week-long camp will teach the students the basics of Adobe’s After Effects and time-based media. Upon completion of the camp, students will have their own motion graphics video.
