  • Long Term Substitute Teacher - Math and English

    Founded in 1953, York Country Day School is a progressive, independent, college preparatory school in York, PA serving students in pre-K through twelfth grade.     York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated substitute teacher to provide long-term coverage during the 2021-2022 school year. The anticipated term of service is approximately three months.
    Beginning approximately October 2021, the teacher will teach courses in 6th grade Math and 8th/9th grade English. The ideal candidate will connect well with students in each age group.  Interested candidates should have expertise in 21st Century learning within the classroom and knowledge with STEAM learning experiences for students.  The teacher will be called upon to cover the duties assigned to the absent teacher as well, including advisory and study halls.

    Requirements:
    The ideal candidate will be able to teach Middle and Upper School Math and English skills, including problem solving, algebraic thinking, reading literature, and effective writing.  In addition, the candidate should be able to foster critical thinking skills, engage students in classroom discussions, and promote active, student-centered learning.  The ideal candidate should possess at minimum an undergraduate degree in Education or a related field.  Candidates should have teaching experience and be an excellent communicator and collaborator. Candidates must have the capacity to deliver instruction both in-person and on a remote learning platform as needed.  Previous teaching in an independent school setting is desired.

  • Part-Time Lower School Music Teacher

    York Country Day School, an independent college preparatory school in York, Pennsylvania, is seeking a Part-Time Lower School Music Teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will have a thorough background in vocal and instrumental music and is passionate about teaching young children, has strong instructional and classroom-management skills, experience collaborating closely with colleagues and parents, and capable of creating an environment that fosters a love of learning. YCDS seeks a positive, energetic, student-centered educator with experience working with students of all levels of accomplishment.

    The YCDS faculty is innovative and collaborative and we seek candidates to complement the strengths of our program and to add their own expertise and background to provide additional breadth to the core curriculum. The Lower School Music Teacher will be responsible for teaching students ages 3 to 11 years old. The YCDS music program approaches learning music through joyful, engaging, hands-on participation in creating and performing both vocal and instrumental music.

    The following are specific teaching and coordinating responsibilities associated with this position:
    • Teach Preschool (3-year olds) through grade five general music classes (with a possibility for teaching some Middle School classes, depending on experience and interest).
    • Develop curricula and implement lessons that incorporate a range of learning approaches and differentiation opportunities to excite and engage students, paying particular attention to the importance of multicultural approaches.
    • Create a student-centered classroom environment with a positive approach to discipline.
    • Prepare students and coordinating various performances/assemblies/shows throughout the year.
    • Collaborate with classroom and specialist teachers in order to continually search for innovative ways to educate the whole child.
    • Keep anecdotal and assessment records to inform thoughtful, comprehensive reports and ongoing parent communication.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Music in Music, Music Education or Performance.
    • A Master's degree or another advanced degree is preferable.
    • Have at least five years experience teaching general and vocal music to elementary school children.
    • Experience with distance learning, Google Classroom, and Seesaw.
    • Experience integrating technology and applying 21st-century learning within the classroom.
    • A collaborative mindset and commitment to professional growth and personal development.

  • Substitute Teacher

    York Country Day School is seeking substitute teachers for Preschool through Grade 12. Substitute teachers are expected to implement the daily instructional plans of the classroom teacher, maintain a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, and establish rapport with students while maintaining proper classroom management. Qualified applicants may have the opportunity to attend remote learning intensive professional development sessions in June 2020 to prepare for a possibility of remote teaching and learning for periods of time in the 2020-2021 academic year should this be mandated.

    Bachelor's degree required and previous experience in a similar school setting preferred. Must be energetic, collaborative, and well organized.
